Why Do We Feel Scared to Create Research Culture when we know It Can Bring Glory to Our Institute Reputation?
The Centre Government recently appointed three academicians as members to the Monetary Policy Committee, which will set interest rates. The appointees were Chetan Ghate, Professor, Indian Statistical Institute (ISI); Pami Dua, Director, Delhi School of Economics (DSE); and Ravindra Dholakia, Professor, Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A).
This is what Industry, Government and the students want from their faculty to get such kinds of accolade. Each one of the academia in the higher education supposed to get involved in quality research.
The question is why we do not have research culture on our campuses where each of the faculty would have a curiosity to learn.
Eventually, everything comes from the top! The responsibility of creating a research environment needs VISION. VISION can’t be same for running a SCHOOL and a HIGHER EDUCATIONAL Institution.
Like in school, where the entire focus is on Classroom lectures, assignments, syllabus completion, examinations, good score and all, same is happening in the higher education.
Very hard to see –
Hands on exposure on subjects
Application of the concepts
Seasoned presentations and a lot more
Now, who is responsible for creating this wonderful culture?
